Classroom Assessment Grounded in Research
The TPRI is based on more than 10 years of research
and is widely cited for the validity and reliability of its data
and for providing a comprehensive evaluation of a child’s literacy
development. The Screening Section of the TPRI is based on a longitudinal
data base of over 1,000 English-speaking students of ethnically
diverse backgrounds in Kindergarten through Grade 3. The stories
in the Inventory Section have been developed specifically for the
TPRI and were tested with 4,000 students. Stories are written using
grade-appropriate features of words and story grammar. Stories
are linked to word reading accuracy in order to place students
in instructional-level text, so that comprehension can be measured
without the confounds of decoding.

Originally developed by leading bilingual educators, the Tejas LEE is a valid and reliable research-based assessment that measures student reading skills and comprehension development in Spanish. For more information about the Tejas LEE and its administration, please click here.
